In short
When you move, buy a home, or the water service is in someone else’s name, the procedure is with the Aqueducts and Sewers Authority. AAA offers three routes. Online: the Mi Acueductos portal (miacueductos.acueductospr.com), where you create your profile and the services menu includes service activation and termination, order status, service certifications and bill claims. By phone: the Phone Center at (787) 620-2482, staffed every day of the year from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., whose transactions include requesting new service activation, plus reconnections and complaints. In person: AAA’s commercial offices. AAA’s current page does not publish the procedure’s document list or deposits, so confirm them by phone before travelling — and don’t assume what they asked for years ago still holds.
What is it?
It is the procedure for AAA to give you water service at a property or move the account into your name. Behind the phrase "put the water in my name" are different situations — a property that had service and is inactive, an active account under the previous owner’s or a relative’s name, or a construction that has never had a connection — and AAA handles them through service orders whose status you can track online. This guide is water only: power is LUMA and has its own guides.
Who can do it?
Anyone needing water service at a property can request it. What AAA currently publishes about conditions is limited: expect to identify yourself and show your relationship to the property, and expect the service to carry a deposit by customer class. The exact details — documents and amounts — are not published on AAA’s current page, which is why this guide does not invent them: ask the Phone Center for them when starting the procedure.

Step by step
Step 1: Pick your route: portal, phone or office
The Mi Acueductos portal lets you handle service activation online: you create your profile (email, password of at least 12 characters, verification by email or text) and use the Services menu. The Phone Center, (787) 620-2482, is staffed 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. every day of the year, holidays included, and handles new service activation. And there are the commercial offices, for those who prefer doing it in person.
Step 2: First confirm which documents and deposit they require
Before going to an office or starting the application, call (787) 620-2482 and ask exactly what your case needs: activating an inactive account, moving an active account into your name, or connecting a new property are different procedures. AAA does not currently publish those lists on its page, and arriving one paper short is the classic way to waste the trip.
Step 3: Submit the request and note the order number
When you file — through the portal, by phone or at an office — the request generates a service order. Keep the number: the portal and AAA’s page have a service-order status section, and with the number you can follow up without retelling the whole story on every call.
Step 4: Once active, register the account in Mi Acueductos
With the account in your name, add it to your Mi Acueductos profile (you need the account number, your ID and the registered phone). From there you see electronic billing, payment history, service certifications, payment plans and bill claims — and you stop depending on postal mail to know what is happening with your water.
Where to do it
Online: miacueductos.acueductospr.com. By phone: Phone Center (787) 620-2482 (representatives 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily; automated payment system 24 hours; hearing-impaired line (787) 679-7322). In person: AAA commercial offices. Central level: Ave. Barbosa 604, Sergio Cuevas Bustamante Building, Hato Rey; PO Box 7066, San Juan, PR 00916-7066.
How long it takes
What to do if something goes wrong
If the property’s account was left in the name of a deceased person or a previous owner with debt, explicitly ask by phone how AAA handles that case before committing to anything: the current page does not publish those rules, and an official answer from a representative — with date and name noted — beats an assumption. If you filed and nothing happens, use the service-order status with your order number. If the problem is an outage or no water reaching the area, that is a different procedure: see the outage-reporting guide. And if what you need is to understand or dispute the bill, the AAA billing and rates guide covers that path.
Common mistakes
- Going to the office without confirming documents by phone: AAA does not publish the list on its current page and requirements vary by case.
- Confusing the procedures: activating an inactive account, changing an active account’s holder, and connecting a new property are different transactions.
- Leaving the water in the previous owner’s or tenant’s name "because it works": without the account in your name you cannot manage claims, certifications or payment plans.
- Losing the service order number: it is the key to following up.
- Mixing water and power: AAA is water; power is LUMA and has separate guides.
Frequently asked questions
How much is the deposit?
AAA’s current page does not publish the amounts, so we do not invent them. Ask for your service class deposit (residential, commercial or industrial) at the Phone Center, (787) 620-2482, when starting the procedure.
Can I do the whole procedure online?
The Mi Acueductos portal includes service activation and termination among its service options, plus order status. If your case requires submitting documents the portal does not accept, the Phone Center representative will tell you how to complete it.
What are the Phone Center’s hours?
Representatives from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., every day of the year including holidays, at (787) 620-2482. The automated payment system runs 24 hours, and there is a hearing-impaired line: (787) 679-7322.
Does this also cover the sewer?
AAA is the Aqueducts and Sewers Authority: sewer service runs through the same agency and the same account where the infrastructure exists. Mention when applying whether the property has or needs a sewer connection so the service order captures it.
