Which Housing Department office is yours

It is the map of where to go. The Housing Department administers public housing, rent subsidies, materials aid, titles and lots, and all those errands start at a physical office. The directory publishes, for each of the ten regions, the address, the list of municipalities served, the telephone with extensions and the name of the regional director. What it does not publish is public service hours or whether an appointment is needed, so that part has to be asked when you call.

Your region is determined by the municipality where the matter is, per the list the Department itself publishes. There is no requirement to meet in order to use the directory.

   Step 1: North and northwest: Aguadilla and Arecibo

   The Aguadilla Regional Office is at Ave. Severiano Cuevas #30, upper floor, entrance by the José De Diego public housing project, in Aguadilla, and serves Aguada, Aguadilla, Isabela, Las Marías, Moca, Quebradillas, Rincón and San Sebastián. Its telephone is 787-274-2527, extensions 2915, 2916, 2923, 2924 and 2925. The Arecibo Regional Office is at Ave. Constitución, Calle 65 de Infantería, Sector La Herradura (El Cotto), in Arecibo, and serves Arecibo, Barceloneta, Camuy, Ciales, Florida, Hatillo, Lares, Manatí, Morovis, Utuado, Vega Alta and Vega Baja.    Step 2: Metro area: Bayamón, San Juan and Carolina

   The Bayamón Regional Office is at El Cantón Mall, 40 Betances St., Suite D-8, Bayamón, and serves Bayamón, Cataño, Comerío, Corozal, Dorado, Guaynabo, Naranjito, Toa Alta, Toa Baja and Vega Alta. Telephone 787-274-2527, extensions 2021, 2020, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. The San Juan Regional Office is at the Juan C. Cordero Dávila Building Annex, Avenida Barbosa 606, San Juan, and serves only the municipality of San Juan; telephone 787-274-2527, extensions 5150, 5217, 6273, 6276 and 6278, fax 787-250-8414. The Carolina Regional Office is at Carolina Shopping Court, Suite #14, Ave. 65 de Infantería at the corner of Roberto Clemente, behind ACAA, and serves Canóvanas, Carolina, Culebra, Fajardo, Loíza, Luquillo, Río Grande, Trujillo Alto and Vieques.    Step 3: Centre and east: Caguas and Humacao

   The Caguas Regional Office is at Calle Ponce de León number 1, corner of Calle Georgetti, Urb. Billy Suárez, Caguas, and serves Aguas Buenas, Caguas, Cayey, Cidra, Gurabo and San Lorenzo. The Humacao Regional Office is at Avenida Boulevard del Río, Tower 2, 3rd floor, Humacao, and serves Ceiba, Humacao, Juncos, Las Piedras, Maunabo, Naguabo and Yabucoa.    Step 4: South and west: Guayama, Ponce and Mayagüez

   The Guayama Regional Office is at the San Cristóbal Municipal Car Park, Calle Enrique González, Guayama, and serves Aibonito, Arroyo, Barranquitas, Guayama, Patillas, Salinas and Santa Isabel. The Ponce Regional Office is at Calle Cristina number 36, opposite Ponce High, and serves Adjuntas, Coamo, Guayanilla, Jayuya, Juana Díaz, Orocovis, Peñuelas, Ponce, Villalba and Yauco. The Mayagüez Regional Office is at Vista Verde Office Plaza, Road No. 2, Suite 108, Mayagüez, and serves Añasco, Cabo Rojo, Guánica, Hormigueros, Lajas, Maricao, Mayagüez, Sabana Grande and San Germán. Its telephone is published as 787-274-2525 — not 2527, as the others — with extensions 2803, 2807, 2808, 2814 and 2819.

   Step 5: Before you go, call

   The directory publishes no public service hours and does not say whether an appointment is needed, and several offices are inside shopping centres or access-controlled buildings. Call your region’s extension and ask two things: whether they see people without an appointment, and at what hours. If your errand is about acquisition and sale of properties, that secretariat publishes its own in-person hours in San Juan — Monday to Friday 8:00 to 11:00 am and 1:00 to 3:00 pm — and has a separate guide on this site.

The full directory is at vivienda.pr.gov, under Directorio de las Oficinas Regionales. The ten regions are Aguadilla, Arecibo, Bayamón, Caguas, Carolina, Guayama, Humacao, Mayagüez, Ponce and San Juan, and between them they cover the 78 municipalities. • Assuming Comerío is served from Caguas: the directory places it in the Bayamón region.
• Assuming Orocovis or Coamo go with Arecibo: they go with Ponce.
• Turning up without calling, when the directory publishes no hours and does not say whether an appointment is needed.
