In short
When LUMA cannot read your meter, it bills by estimate. If you prefer to avoid that, LUMA publishes that you can submit your own meter reading through Mi LUMA Web or in person at a Customer Service Center, and expressly says to include a photo of the meter showing the reading. It is a preventive procedure and different from a bill query: the query disputes a bill you already received, the reading aims for the next one to come from your real consumption.
What is it?
An estimated bill is what LUMA calculates when it does not have a real reading of your meter for that cycle. The problem with an estimate is not only that it may come out high: it throws consumption out of balance between months, so a low estimate is usually followed by a high adjustment when the meter is finally read. Submitting your own reading is the route LUMA publishes to break that cycle. It is not a claim or a complaint: it is giving the company the data it is missing, with the photographic evidence it asks for itself.
Who can do it?
It applies to any residential customer with an active account who wants to avoid estimated bills. LUMA publishes no additional conditions for submitting a reading. Bear in mind the company is deploying smart meters, which are read remotely; if your property already has one, the estimate problem normally does not arise in the same way.
Requirements
- A photo of the meter showing the reading. LUMA expressly asks for it when describing this service.Verified against the official source
- Submitting it through Mi LUMA Web or in person at a Customer Service Center. LUMA does not list the phone as a route for this particular procedure.Verified against the official source

Step by step
Step 1: Confirm your bills are coming in estimated
First, look at the bill: if it is marked as estimated, the problem has a name and this is the route. If the charge seems wrong but the reading was real, then what applies to you is a bill query, which is a different procedure. Telling them apart saves a trip.
Step 2: Go to the meter and record the reading exactly
Record the digits as they appear, without rounding or interpreting. If the meter has several screens or cycles through values, wait for the one showing accumulated consumption. Note the date and time you read it too, because that is what anchors the reading to a cycle.
Step 3: Take the photo so the number is legible
This is the step that decides whether the submission works. LUMA expressly asks to include a photo of the meter showing the reading. Make sure the full number is visible and in focus, and if you can, that something identifying the meter is visible too. A blurred or backlit photo is the most common reason the submission has to be repeated.
Step 4: Submit it through Mi LUMA Web or at a Customer Service Center
Those are the two routes LUMA publishes for this service. Mi LUMA Web is the practical one if your account is already set up, because the photo is attached from the same phone you took it with. In person, the centers run on an appointment system.
Step 5: Repeat it each cycle while the problem persists
Submitting a reading fixes one cycle, not the cause. If your meter is hard to access — behind a locked gate, with a loose dog, inside a private area — the estimate will come back next month. While you resolve the access, submitting the reading each cycle keeps the bill tied to your real consumption.
Where to do it
Through Mi LUMA Web, or in person at any LUMA Customer Service Center. Always include the photo of the meter with the reading.
How long it takes
What to do if something goes wrong
If an estimated bill you believe is wrong has already arrived, submitting the reading does not correct it by itself: the route for disputing an issued bill is a bill query, requested through Mi LUMA Web, by phone at 1-844-888-5862 or in person. If your meter is inaccessible to reading staff, resolving that access is what cuts the problem off at the root. If the meter number does not match the one on your bill, do not submit that reading: it may be another unit’s meter. LUMA does not publish on this page a timeframe for the reading to be reflected on the bill, so do not assume it applies to the current cycle. PRFácil does not submit readings or manage LUMA accounts.
Common mistakes
- Submitting the reading without the photo of the meter, which is what LUMA expressly asks for.
- Sending a blurred or backlit photo where the number cannot be read.
- Confusing this procedure with a bill query: one prevents the estimate, the other disputes a bill already issued.
- Rounding or interpreting the digits instead of recording them exactly.
- Photographing another unit’s meter in a building with several meters together.
- Submitting a reading once and expecting the estimate not to return while the cause is still there.
Frequently asked questions
Can I send the reading by phone?
For this service LUMA lists Mi LUMA Web and Customer Service Centers. Unlike other procedures of theirs, it does not mention the phone here, which makes sense: the submission includes attaching a photo of the meter.
Does this correct the estimated bill I already received?
That is not what LUMA describes it for. Submitting the reading aims for billing to come from your real consumption. To dispute a bill already issued that you disagree with, the route is a bill query.
What if I have a smart meter?
LUMA is deploying smart meters, which are read remotely, and publishes separate information about them. If your property already has one, the scenario of an estimate for lack of a reading normally does not arise in the same way.
